Too busy to laugh

Apologies on such the long period of time since the last post. I've always tried to avoid using "I'm Busy" as an excuse for not meeting someone, or doing something. Admittedly, my aversion to using this phrase comes from "soft rejections" from girls back in the day (lol sometimes now too).

ME: "Hey [insert girl name here], want to meet up for a coffee/tea?"

HER: "I'm pretty busy so not sure when I'll be able to."

Ok, ok. Hint taken. By the way, I think the whole dating/courting a girl "system" is broken today (it could use some updates) but more on that in a future post! This boiler plate excuse can wiggle its way into all parts of our lives too. My point is, I think we are all busy, period; sometimes we are busy doing ABSOLUTELY nothing, and that's fine, we need these moments too. You make time for the things you want to do. So I made some time to write this out, finally.

Just in case we've forgotten, what I want to do is be an actor. And eventually, I'd like to have a production company and create content. That's what I'm busy always trying to do, trying to get there. I booked another commercial since the last post but since it hasn't aired yet, I'll keep the details hidden for now. It was a fun shoot, probably the coolest commercial I've done to date. Since it was for a global company, it was a notch under my belt for being able to be apart of such a massive commercial enterprise, no I won't be the next "Flo" or "Can you hear me now, Guy" (Dude's a savage flopping companies btw, bold haha) but it was a nice experience. Everything was looking up for a moment, shortly after booking and filming that commercial, I was called in for another series of legit auditions...I was stoked about each project too, not just wanting it for resume and network building. Buuuuuuuuut I didn't book any of them and now I'm back in the ebb portion of the cycle. Auditions have been kinda scarce lately, maybe once a week if at all and for projects I'm not as excited about; to add just a little "razzle dazzle," I've been hearing and seeing about all the bookings my peers are receiving which is always a mind trip. I'll be honest, MOST of the time it's more about not getting a chance to audition for these projects, not the actor themselves. Occasionally though, it is straight up actor envy. "That guy?! That's who got cast? How Sway?! HOW?" Actor envy is dangerous and contagious but most of all, it is blinding. Like its parent, Envy, it makes you blind to all the other good you have going on (I have a lot of good going on with my job right now and I did film an enjoyable and successful Indie proof of concept for a pilot). It can also be a defeating feeling sometimes and make you not want to plan on bookings or auditions...it leads to a jaded feeling about the industry.

I've heard this saying before and I saw it again yesterday but like a lot of things, as you get older, $h*t just hits a little differently:

"Want to hear God laugh, tell him your plans"

I used to hear that and feel "attacked" lolol. Why would my plans be laughed at? I'm serious about them, I'm trying to better myself, and they don't involve anything oppressive to other individuals so why laugh, support me! Now a days I look at that "laugh" as a gesture of endearment. That laugh is stating "not bad kid, missing a few things here and there but great try, keep working, keep trying, I got some things that'll make it all line up in time."

Whether you call it God, Allah, Karma...heck Entropy the point is that you keep working your plans, keep trying your plans, and hey, laugh at them. Accept that you're probably going to miss something in your plan. I'm speaking from experience, designers plan all kinds of stuff...ask any of them if they ever get it fully right on the first try and they'll tell you no.

So, I fancy myself a funny person from time to time and It's Friday so I'd like to give God a good chuckle...here are my acting career plans for the next few months:

  • Season 2 of Haunting of Hill House (Bly Manor) should be starting the casting process, I plan on getting an audition

  • Season 2 of Boomerang should be starting the casting process, I plan on getting an audition

  • Seasons 3 and 4 of Atlanta should be starting the casting process, I plan on getting brought back for at least another episode.

  • Season 2 of American Soul is definitely starting the casting process, I plan on getting an audition for it.

I'm sure in some capacity I may get to audition for one of these...maybe not though but I'll be busy regardless, I'm just going to make sure I make time to laugh a little more at my plans. I don't do that enough
