Serendipity (no not the 2001 Rom Com)

Here we are, almost two weeks being unemployed! That's right, I still haven't found employment to sustain me; I've certainly been trying though. I have sent out cover letters, resumes, and links to my portfolio to various agencies and entities in hopes of landing something to keep me sane. In addition to all the day job-hunting, I have been self submitting to casting breakdowns like crazy. I have to admit, my addiction to the Actors Access and Backstage websites has become very apparent. I check those websites at least 4 times an hour, NO EXAGGERATION! All in the hopes that I'll log on and see a breakdown I'm right for so I can be the first to submit. Nothing has come of those submissions (so far).

Last week I talked about getting out a creative story I had been pondering for a while; it was spurred by my desire to enter into the ABFF's TV show screenplay competition. The deadline for entries was yesterday and I decided not to submit my pitch. After reading the "fine print" of the competition rules I didn't feel comfortable turning in my idea. Basically, even by submitting my project I was agreeing to giving up control of my work...the material instantly became the property of the competition organizer EVEN IF I DIDN'T WIN. Really? I was bummed needless to say but I might still have a chance to be apart of the festival...

I got some exciting news on Monday of this week, a day before the ABFF screenplay submission was due. If all things go to plan, I have the opportunity to be apart of a short film that will be screened at the festival! I don't want to jinx my chances or reveal too much about the project, out of respect for the filmmakers, but dare I say the events have been quite serendipitous. Lastly, I broke my agent acquired auditions on Tuesday! Receiving a Cmail (notification you get in Actors Access when you've been invited to an audition) has never been so exciting. For the record, apparently everything has been a bit slow in the film industry here over the past month, so I wasn't the only one experiencing a drought. As always I hope I get the gig, it'll give me a chance to work out of town for a few days, make some sort of income, and gain more experience.

In hindsight, this week was the closet I've been to having the typical "working actor" experience, all I need is the mundane day job. A week from now today, maybe I'll be on set...how's that for an actor's life?
