#AontheA

My first post was entitled "A week from now, Today;" while I don't want to say that this will become a weekly thing, the concept/format of a weekly post, every Thursday, is very appealing. So I'll say maybe for now. Today's post, entitled #AontheA is about "3 random signs", I'll explain.

For starters, today is the day I hopefully make my TV debut on FX Atlanta! I follow the main director of the show, Hiro Murai, on Instagram and Twitter (If he had a Facebook presence I'd follow that too). Hiro shared a post stating that Episode 6 "Teddy Perkins" would air commercial free and has a run time of 41 minutes. Extra special stuff for my Silver Screen Debut, dope right? When I saw it, an "actors ego" kicked in and I felt like he was talking directly to me. In my defense, I got to work with him briefly while we filmed the scene; he let me do some improvising on a few lines, shook my hand, asked for my name...stand up dude, made a green actor feel welcomed and really important. This was sign one.

Sign Two came while watching "Get on Up" last night. As an aspiring actor I tend to watch a ton of movies but more importantly, I watch the actors. I especially watch actors who inspire me. Right now I'm on this Chadwick Boseman kick...for obvious reasons, Black Panther anyone? As I was watching the movie I was really impressed by Chad's take on Jame's Brown; SPOILER ALERT, there is a sequence where they highlight the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and it's subsequent impact on the American People and James Brown's performance "Live at the Boston Garden." Yesterday's date April 4th, 2018 happened to be the 50th anniversary of MLK's assassination. I was aware of this but it really hit me while watching that sequence of the movie. How was it that I just happened to watch "Get on Up" yesterday and the coincidence of that date and that sequence happened? Plus today, is the 50 year anniversary of Jame's Brown's "Live at the Boston Garden." Sign Two.

Sign Three came this morning, while checking out the IMBD page for tonight's episode of Atlanta ( I took a screen shot of it below). The page will probably update a little after the episode airs and the officials correct/update all of the information about the episode but seeing my name after 'Stars:' was insane. It's probably listed alphabetically for now and the order will change to reflect the proper billing but for a short moment I got to take it in. Sign Three.

Acting is tough, don't let anyone fool you or lie to you. This process can get you down so I have to scrap and stretch, and find ways to notice "signs" along the way, signs that say keep going and affirm that I'm on the right path. So the "Get on Up" Sign may be a stretch for some but let me tell you, it was a sign to me! I have this hashtag I use on almost everything I post to Instagram, " #AintheA " it's something I do because my name is Alvin (A) I live in Atlanta (the A), don't judge me haha. Some of my friends give me a hard time about the corny trope #AintheA and ever since I booked Atlanta, I have been waiting to use #AontheA. Take that, friends.

Be who you want to be a week from now, Today.
