A week ago, Today

Welcome to the second post of the week!

Last week this time I was on the way to see my Aunt and Uncle down in Florida. My parents were going down there for a long weekend and I figured it would be a good thing to spend some time with everyone. Just a day prior, I had interviewed for a job as a set designer but I was still very much unemployed so making the trip down meant spending some "valuable" money. Regardless, I went and I'm glad I did. That was the start of the "rejuvenation" I talked about in the last post. On the drive down, I got the confirmation that I had gotten the job! I arrived in Florida relieved and ready to spend some essential time with family.

We talked about a lot of things over the course of 36 hours (I came back to town to make the Atlanta United game Saturday). Sometimes we literally talked about nothing and other times it was something specific; that's the beauty of spending time with close family and friends...you just talk and the conversation goes where it goes. I had 4-1/2 hours in a car on the way back to think about all that was discussed and how drastically my immediate future had changed. It was during this time that I felt "older." Like I said in the Tuesday post, I don't feel old but I definitely feel older. I was in a different place of mind when I turned 26 and I'm in a different place of mind from a week ago.

I won't (actually I can't) say too much about the new job but after only 4 days, I am super excited to see this project unfold and the next opportunities it will bring. One thing I will say about the job is the obvious thing, I'm getting paid. I am nervous about how I will make any forthcoming auditions work or any bookings...my current gig is a FULL TIME deal. I guess I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. By the way, the audition drought is back in effect...it's been a while. It's also been a while since I booked a SAG-AFTRA project; I remember reading about how some actors have gone a year or more without a booking even after they have a big role. It hasn't been a year and my role on "Atlanta" wasn't big but the idea of me not booking something big for an extended period of time is becoming a truth. All in all though, I'm still moving forward.

Here's an obscure pic of my new work space (for now...it'll change).
